Cousins Time – August 2017

Jim Home from Rehab. What a great treat.

Jim Home from Rehab. What a great treat.

August 2017 was Cousins Time again. A visit in the summer of 2011 to New England created memories in Rhode Island of the “Greats” on the trampoline and a while later on a visit to RI Connor couldn’t remember which ones were Samantha and Hailey and finally remembered the “ginger haired” one. So I resolved to make time during our summers for my Mother’s great grandchildren in that age group to get together and know each other.

Our trips since 2013 have been marvelous and this year was the best of all. Jimmy came home from Rehab our last day in RI and will be gaining strength for some time to come. But best of all he is HOME. We were able to spend more time with Barbara, Scott, Maddie and Livi along with seeing Beth for a while. I am sorry we missed Sarah and Chris.

We started out with our time in Rhode Island enjoying the kids and conversation.  Family time is the best.  Jennifer had rented a water slide for that Sunday and the kids all had a blast.  It took a little convincing for Cameron because the slide was bigger than last year but Uncle Mike finally convinced him to give it a try and there was no stopping him.  Casey was doing a children’s production of a parody of Rapunzel and did a great job.  We all enjoyed it tremendously and it was fun seeing Casey do her thing.

We headed off the New Hampshire for a Tuesday night dinner at Chili’s with Barbara, Scott, Olivia and Maddie followed by pool time and the girls getting re-acquainted.  All of these greats are water sprites.  They love being in the water whether it’s a pool, lake or ocean.  We followed up with a dinner with Karen and then a BBQ at Barbara’s with Scott.  Saw where she had buried Mother’s ashes and a quick trip to Beth’s new home built by brother Chris.  We had a free day and took the girls back to Friendly Farms in Dublin, NH followed by a trip to Kimball’s for Ice Cream.  We were so glad this year to have more time with Barbara and Scott and even a hello and hug with Beth.  Still missed Chris and Sarah but maybe next time.

On Friday we headed for York Beach, Maine in the pouring rain but at least the Anchorage Inn has two indoor pools and 2 outdoor pools.  Saturday Barbara and family arrived for a day at the beach and the kids mingled and had a great time together.  I managed not to get burned (blistered by feet last year) and enjoyed our time with family.  Mike and I did some ambling on Sunday afternoon along the coast of Maine while Jennifer stayed with the kids and on Monday we headed back to RI with Connor while the rest headed to Canobie Lake.

With Jennifer’s ok the girls raided her closet for the 2017 Bristol Cousin’s Fashion Show and they all looked spectacular.  How grown up they looked.  Not ready for that.  Connor and Cameron joined into the fun in their own way and created the hilarity to offset the girls’ fashion displays.

Wednesday night came Cousins Cake time and the realization we had to say good bye for another year.  How to be sad and happy at the same time.  Thursday morning Jimmy came home for good and we were there to great him.

So our Cousins time came to an end on a great note with Jimmy home, the “Greats” all happy (and a little sad), wishing we had more time with Barbara, Scott and her girls.  The puppies welcomed the girls home at 10pm along with friend Maira and by that time we were just happy to be home.

Love to all the family for a great visit and a great Cousins Time.
